UNITED ACTION FOR YOUR (UAY)
Youth Advisory Panel - Application
Purpose
YAP Members serve the community throughout the school year by acting as a positive role model; to assist teens in refusal skills needed to abstain; to educate peers about sexual health and responsible decision making; to gain confidence and improve presentation skills; to become more articulate, to enhance leadership ability; and to explore public health and social services career opportunities.
Expectations
All Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) members will be expected to:- Attend a mandatory training session, or equivalent session with Health Educator
- Participate in weekly 1.5hr meetings at the UAY Main Office, 410 Iowa Avenue
- Be invested in preparing for and attending YAP_sponsored events or activites
Qualifications
While YAP is intended to develop these skills, we are looking for energetic and dynamic individuals who are on the path to becoming responsible adults. We are looking for youth leaders who demonstrate strong role model behaviors, have competent decision-making and leadership skills, and who are organized individuals. YAP'rs need to be able to work independently with minimal supervision, as many expected opportunities occur outside of regular meeting times. Lastly, YAP members should have proficient written, oral, and presentation skills â.. or the drive to develop them!
Specific Responsibilities
YAP members are expected to attend the mandatory training session or reschedule with the health educator. Weekly meetings are encouraged, however if conflicts arise it is the responsibility of the YAP member to inform the Health Educator of their absence. In addition, street outreach events will arise. Additional duties include Google Voice/Facebook duties, adhering to UAY Code of Conduct, Contributing to monthly Bathroom Buzz Newsletter, and other projects as they occur.
